LED and LCD screens

What are the common sizes of stage LED background screens?

Anyone who does stage activities knows that the stage background screen is really a “family project”. It must not only support the scene, but also coordinate with the lighting, sound, and stage design. It cannot be too big or too small. If the size is not chosen well, the entire stage effect will become a bit embarrassing. So what are the sizes of common stage LED background screens? Next, I will combine the common stage design experience in the industry and put it more straightforwardly. Don’t pile up the parameters in vain.

1. Main screen: The “face” of the stage. Generally, the bigger the screen, the more stable it is.

The home screen is the first thing the audience sees and is the core area of visual content, so it is usually not small in size. Common specifications are roughly in the following range:

8 meters × 4 meters

Suitable for small and medium-sized activities, such as corporate annual meetings and small press conferences. This size is inexpensive and quick to build, so it doesn’t give people a particularly shabby feeling.

10 meters × 5 meters

It is a size segment that is used very frequently. Most hotel banquet halls, conference venues, and exhibition stands can be put down. It will be visually more grand than 8×4, and the content display will be more flexible.

12 meters × 6 meters

This is already considered a standard main screen size for “big scenes”. Such as real estate launches, car launches, local cultural tourism and performing arts activities, many of them will be used.

16 meters × 8 meters

Extra large main screens are often found on large outdoor stages, pre-concert areas, and recording of medium and large variety shows. It requires a large site, strong load-bearing capacity, and a higher budget.

2. Secondary screen: a little helper for supplementing information and adding layers

The secondary screen is also called a side screen or a wing screen. It is mainly used to supplement the main screen information or extend the screen. The size is not necessarily large, the common ones are:

3m×5m vertical screen

Vertical screen is very common, and it is very convenient for close-ups of characters, product introductions, and subtitle information.

4m×3m horizontal screen

Suitable for left and right symmetrical placement to enhance the overall visual width of the stage.

5 meters × 3 meters

This is a medium-sized secondary screen, which can not only supplement the screen, but also work as a “temporary part-time main screen” when needed.

3. Sky screen (top screen): space creation machine

The main purpose of the sky screen is to create a visual atmosphere and give the stage more depth. The size is generally not fixed, but common ranges are as follows:

6 meters × 6 meters

Suitable for small stages in hotels and convention and exhibition centers. The layout is simple and the cost is not too exaggerated.

8 meters × 8 meters

It is often used in large-scale stage design projects to create an immersive effect with the main screen and floor tile screens.

Special custom size

Some programs will make the marquee into an irregular structure, such as a special-shaped frame, an angled structure, etc. Anyway, the LEDs are all put together. We are not afraid of strange sizes, but we are afraid of insufficient budget.

5. Why are most sizes “integer”?

Because the LED screen itself is made of modules. Common modules are 500×500, 500×1000, 640×640, etc. The more complete the module can be, the cheaper, faster and more stable it will be.

If you insist on making a “ghost size”, the on-site technicians can’t help but frown: the budget will increase, the working hours will increase, and the splicing of materials will become more complicated.

6. How to choose the size more reliably? Let me give you some tips on how to avoid pitfalls

Don’t brag based on the size of the venue.

For example, the height of the hotel banquet hall is only 5 meters. If you insist on a large screen with a height of 6 meters, you can only make the screen 4 meters high, which is very awkward.

Don’t ignore resolution

The bigger the screen, the higher the resolution so it won’t be blurry. Generally, the stage should use at least P3, P2.6 or even finer, so that the content does not look like a “mosaic”.

Consider transportation and construction

A large screen is not a computer desktop. Today, you can adjust it to as large a size as you want. Consider the box transportation route, lifting points, steel structure, load-bearing, and fire protection requirements.

The bigger the background screen, the better

If the content design capabilities cannot keep up, the entire stage will become a “huge PPT display wall.” Many activities look cliché because the content does not keep up with the size of the screen.

Conclusion

To be honest, there is no 100% fixed solution for the size of the stage LED background screen, but the industry does have common ranges. When choosing, you only need to combine the venue, budget, stage requirements, and content design to basically determine the specifications that are most suitable for you. Don’t chase the big size, and don’t cut down on specifications just to save money. Put effectiveness and safety first in everything.

Thank you for watching.
